Military Chief Says Iran-Russia Defense Cooperation Upholds Global Security

A senior Iranian military official said Monday that defense cooperation between Iran and Russia will definitely contribute to ensuring security across the globe.

Deputy Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Aziz Nasirzadeh made the remarks upon arriving in Russian capital Moscow to take part in the International Military-Technical Forum, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

He stressed independent states that respect one another’s territorial integrity and seek to expand relations with each other should exchange views on ways to counter global crises and insecurity risen from the U.S.-led unilateral global order.

According to IRNA, Iran has put on display for the first time, the homegrown Ababil ballistic missile at its pavilion at the Russian forum.

It said the missile has a length and weight of 3.7 m and 240 kg respectively and is equipped with a 45-kg warhead.

The missile is capable of hitting targets within a range of 86 km and can be equipped with optical contrast seekers for ground, the report added.

The forum is being held at the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center in Moscow, which will continue until Aug. 20, the Russian news agency TASS reported on Monday.

About 1,500 prominent military and industrial Russian companies have presented their products, and 85 foreign companies and organizations from seven countries have participated in the forum, it added.

Iran and Russia, both being under the sanctions imposed by the United States, have recently expanded bilateral relations in various areas, including the political, economic and defense fields.
